Good news everyone. Today was our first official meeting of the Teen Advisory Group. Things went really well in my optimistic opinion! We extended the event time, so now teen events start at 3:30 and go until 5pm. We also planed the meetings for the next two months, so check the events page for more details!
On a different note, Laura and I placed a rather large order for the teen section so expect loads of manga and fiction in the coming months! Hope to see you next week teen! -Bailey Check out London's great documentary! Hey teens,
Check out this blog to promote resources for Wyoming History Day research: http://will.state.wy.us/historyday.html. There is also a link to a History Day flier called Find it Now. Have fun exploring. Laura Hey Teens! As some of you may know, there are some major changes in the air and we want to know what you think! If you haven't yet, please take the survey: Thanks! Happy New Year! Bailey and I look forward to the start of this new year and all the fun to come. And we hope to gather some great input from you on our future events!
Attached are photos of my new pup...Shiloh! Laura A new year calls for a new page! As some of you may have noticed I have made some changes to the teen page. Tell me what you think! The idea was to make navigating the site a bit easier, so I'd really like to know to know if it worked or not. ;) Also with the new year change is in the air. We are looking at renovating YAK and Chimera, but that's all I'm going to say for now.
-Bailey Below is a link to a survey, some of you took part in this survey at YAK last Thursday. Please, please, please take a minute and fill in this survey! (even if you already filled it out at the gaming league, there's more to it now) You, the teens, have the greatest say in how the teen department meets your needs and expectations, so your input is greatly valued! Thank you so much guys.
Here is the info you will need to answer the questions, sorry i forgot this yesterday. What is a “Teen Advisory Group” or "TAG"? All libraries Young Adult collections rely heavily on the input from teens. A Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens who play a big part in organizing events, ordering books, the teen web page, and even the layout of the teen section. What’s an “Anime Club”? The library would host a monthly anime club, directed by the teens. The library would be in charge of promotion, equipment and renting the meeting room. The anime watched would be voted on by the club. (There is some chance of sponsorship from Funimation.) What is a "Gaming League"? A gaming league would be a club where the teens would decide what gaming stations they played each week, what games and if they would have tournaments. The teens in charge of the gaming league would be responsible for any organization of torments but would have support for prizes from the YA department. -Bailey As some of you may or may not know, depending on whether or not you pay attention to the schedule or not, YAK was scheduled to meet at LCCC on the 28th of January, this has been changed to February 4th. I will try to remind you all of this change as it gets closer to the dates.
-Bailey Yet another cool thing I found in the school Library Journal. Check this out!
-- School Library Journal, 12/2/2009 Have any of your young readers ever gushed about a book that transported them to a new world or introduced them to a character that they felt like they knew? The Letters About Literature (LAL) promotion from the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target, asks readers in three grade categories (Level 1: grades 4-6; Level 2: 7-8; Level 3: 9-12) to select a fiction or nonfiction book, a short story, poem, essay or speech and write a letter to the author about how the title affected them. Six national winners will receive a $500 Target Gift Card, plus each will win a $10,000 LAL Reading Promotion Grantfor their community or school library. The deadline is December 12, so hurry up and check out the application information ASAP! I hope some of you enter! -Bailey |
