Teen Summer Reading Bingo Card FAQ
Q:What if I don't like a square or can not physically accomplish it?
A: Tough toenails. But seriously, send Laura or Bailey a message, and we are more than willing to work with you. Please approve your substitutions with either Laura or Bailey so that we may keep the Bingo Card fair and balanced for all participants.
Q: What do you mean "Go somewhere using a map"?
A: It's simple; if you are going on a road trip with your parents and you use a map for directions, that counts. Or you could try to get to a park you have never been to. Try to get there using only a map of the city. You and a friend could draw maps for each other to a secret location in your house, you could even count the map in a mall. Be creative, and have fun!
Q: What kind of questions count as reference questions, and where can I find a librarian to ask?
A: First, a reference question can be just about anything. You could ask us to look up who lived in your house in 1928, or where your favorite books are shelved. The reference librarians sit at the Information Station Tuesday-Thursday from 10am-7pm and Friday-Sunday 1-5pm and are always happy to answer any questions you may have! Here's the best part of all, if you contact Laura or Bailey to ask them a question, even if it is about the bingo card, that counts!
Q: What am I supposed to do for the short story square?
A: The goal is to write a short story of at least 100 words (that's only about a paragraph) using the theme "You Are Here" any way you like. Seriously, you could even mention in your story that a sign says "You Are Here". Be creative! Also for this square to count you must post it on the teen forum, there will be a special thread titled "You Are Here Creative Writing" for you to post it under.
Q: What do you mean a "brief photo journal"?
A: As you go on your various adventures this summer at home or abroad, take a few pictures that represent your journey. To meet the Bingo requirement you must have at least three and then post them on the teen forum. There will be a special thread under which you can post these pictures. Please also include a short description of what's going on in the photo, or where you are, or how this picture represents your summer vacation.
Q: How do I upload pictures to the Teen Forum?
A: You must first register. To do this there is a link in the upper right hand corner of the teen forum, called "register". All it wants is an email address and a password. Once you have done this, it will give you the option to upload pictures and links, as well as many other things. You may even customize your profile with a profile picture. Please call if you have any questions.
Q: What types of things can I share on the teen forum for the "Share how to make or do something." bingo square?
A: Anything you want! If you are really good at knitting, post instructions on how to knit. If you know how to ski, post helpful tips or instructions on how to learn to ski. You may add links from the internet, photos, or anything you want that you think might help. The idea is to teach others about your hobby or favorite craft.
Q: Can I use a book I have read in the past to count for a bingo square?
A: No. For a book to count towards the 2011 Teen Summer Reading Contest it must be read at some point between the 1st of June and the 30th of August. However you can reread a book you have read before and liked.
Q: Can I use the same book to count for more than one Bingo square?
A: Yes you can! Work smarter not harder! Here's one example, there is a "book of your choice" square, a "read a mystery book" square and a "read a new author" square. If you can find a book that fulfills all of these with one book, you've taken care of 3 squares!
Q: How many prizes can I win?
A: You can win up to 5 prizes, or one Bingo card's worth. In addition to receiving a prize for each bingo, you will also receive a raffle ticket for the grand prize drawing. Challenge yourself and see if you can complete every square on the card!
Q: What if I don't have a home computer to access and post on the teen forum?
A: Here at ACPL in the teen section of the library we have set aside 6 exclusively teen computers. No one under the age of 11 or over the age of 18 is allowed to use them; they are just for you!
